Delete pages from a PDF

Deleting a page is not redaction

This matters enough to say plainly. Removing a page removes it completely — the content is gone from the output because that page was never copied into it. That is genuinely safe for the pages you delete.

What it does not do is remove sensitive information from the pages you keep. If a name, an account number or a signature appears on a page you are keeping, deleting other pages does nothing about it. Drawing a black box over it in an editor does nothing either — the text sits underneath and can be copied straight out. Use the Redact PDF tool, which removes the underlying content rather than covering it.

Common uses

• Dropping the blank pages a duplex scanner produces from single-sided originals.
• Removing a cover sheet, a fax header, or the terms-and-conditions pages before sending a document on.
• Cutting a long appendix to get a file under an email attachment limit — though Compress PDF is usually the better answer when you need to keep everything.
• Deleting a page you have already replaced with a corrected version.
