This policy explains what happens to your files and your personal data when you use PDF Spree at pdfspree.com. The service is operated by [operator name to be confirmed].
Your files
How a file is handled depends on which tool you use. Every tool page states its processing type before you upload anything, and the two types behave very differently.
Browser-based tools
Tools such as merging, splitting, rotating and reordering run as code executed by your own browser. Your file is read into your device’s memory, processed there, and written back out as a download. It is never transmitted to our servers or to any third party. Closing the tab discards it.
Server-processed tools
A minority of operations cannot be performed in a browser — converting Office documents, optical character recognition, and some forms of compression. For these, your file is uploaded to our processing server over an encrypted connection, processed, and returned to you.
When a file is processed on our servers:
- If you are not signed in, it is held only for as long as the operation takes plus a short window for you to download the result, and is then deleted automatically within a day. Deletion is scheduled by the system, not performed by hand.
- If you are signed in, it is kept in your account’s storage until you delete it — that storage is what your plan provides. Deleting moves it to a trash you can restore from for seven days, after which it is removed for good.
- It is not read, inspected, indexed or used to train anything.
- It is not shared with third parties except as described below.
Tools that use an AI model
Some data-extraction tools send the contents of your document to a third-party AI provider in order to interpret it. These tools are labelled as such on their own pages before you upload. If you use one, the document contents leave our infrastructure and are subject to that provider’s terms as well as this policy. Providers we use are contractually barred from training models on data submitted through their API.
If a document is confidential enough that this matters, use a browser-based tool instead — see how we handle your files for the full list of which tools are which.
Personal data we collect
You do not need an account to use PDF Spree, and we do not ask for your name, email address or payment details in order to use a tool.
- Technical request data
- Our hosting and CDN providers record standard server logs — IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp. These are used for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults, and are retained on a rolling short-term basis.
- Usage analytics
- We record which tools are used and whether operations succeed, in aggregate. We use this to decide what to build and to find things that are broken. It is not tied to an identity.
- Anything you send us
- If you email us, we keep the message and your address for as long as needed to deal with it.
Advertising
PDF Spree is free, and advertising is what pays for it. When advertising is served on a page, third-party advertising providers — including Google — may set or read cookies on your device, and may use identifiers such as your IP address and browsing activity to select and measure ads.
Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ad Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors’ use of cookies at aboutads.info.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before any non-essential cookie is set, and advertising scripts do not load until you give it. You can change that choice at any time. Details are in our cookie policy.
Why we are allowed to process this
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on: legitimate interests for security logging, abuse prevention and aggregate analytics; performance of a contract for processing a file you have asked us to process; and consent for advertising and any other non-essential cookies.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, object to or restrict its processing, receive a copy of it, or withdraw consent you previously gave.
In practice we hold very little that identifies you: files processed without an account are already gone, and anything stored against an account is listed on your dashboard and deletable by you at any time. To exercise a right, or to ask what we hold, email privacy@pdfspree.com. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
PDF Spree is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how files or data are handled, we will update this page and move the date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on the site rather than made quietly.
